We care about every stage of the product life cycle.
And not just during the production process. Konica Minolta pays attention to all stages of the product lifecycle from raw material state to production, distribution, service life, recycling, final disposal. We seek ways for improvement at every step by assessing the environmental impact quantitatively.
Once a machine has reached it's useful end-of-life and cannot be refurbished for further use, the Konica Minolta Service Technicians at each branch will remove any parts that can be reused in other machines. Konica Minolta Business Solutions New Zealand is aware of our remote location from other countries and seeks to find local solutions to recycling where practical.
Regarding the disposal of machines, Konica Minolta utilises two organisations. Both companies have E-Waste export permits (BASEL), and wereused for the disposal of EWasteduring the 2008 E-Day with funding support provided by the Ministry of Environment for the activity. As a requirement of law, the internationally recognised Basel Convention certificate is needed for the sending of electronic waste overseas. Our e-waste partners here in New Zealand have obtained this certificate.
For example, decommissioned machines are sent to a dedicated recycling facility in Singapore that specialises in total e-waste management and recycling. This site is the largest of its kind in Singapore and has achieved ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001:2004 & OHSAS 18001:1999 Certifications. A diagram of the complete disposal process of Konica Minolta machines can be viewed here.

Packaging Recycling
All packaging of machines in New Zealand is sent to appropriate recyclers that specialise in plastic wrapping, cardboard and polystyrene recycling. This packaging meets international standards for safe disposal.
In partnership with Recycle NZ, Konica Minolta takes all polystyrene packaging for disposal. The expanded polystyrene is ground and then heat extruded in a special press into dense polystyrene 'logs'. These 'logs' then reprocessed into new products such as picture frames.
