Production Print

M-PReS workflow is an innovative document workflow control system. It enables you to manage and monitor the entire document development process from creation to production. M-PReS Workflow provides a graphical representation of the flow of work in a project including specific tasks, information dependencies, and the sequence of decisions and activities involved. All the steps, the people involved, the required input and output, and the tools needed, for each step are defined so that users are notified of pending work, and managers can route approvals through the system quickly.

Multiple people collaborate on projects that are stored in a central repository. M-PReS Workflow provides a desktop view of all the tasks and tools assigned to each user, and provides the ability to limit access to components of a job (eg images or text) to defined users and workgroups. All parts of the job can be version controlled with a check out and check in process, and a pre-defined approval process can be imposed on the workflow. For example, one person may create a component and another person must approve it before it becomes part of the job.

You are now able to roll back to a previous version of a job and reprint it using the script and resources that were used at the time of the original printing, even though multiple changes have been made since the initial production. M-PReS Workflow, being database driven, enables customisation and localisation to suit your particular circumstances.

You now have a much greater choice of creation tools. In addition to the powerful PReS IDE, you can now use PReS Designer as a WYSIWYG editor, as well as NEWLEAF. There is also a completely new Multiplatform M-PReS Production Engine that runs on both MS Windows and Unix platforms. M-PReS Workflow is built on an open architecture that enables seamless integration of the components you need to put together your customised document production system.

scenario...

CorpAir is a financial institution that wishes to redesign its credit card statement. Joe, an IT administrator, is given responsibility for this job. He reviews the approved customer requirements document and uses M-PReS Workflow to design the workflow depicted below, as well as access rights and roles for each of the people involved in the process.

  1. John, the graphic designer, composes the fonts and graphics and saves them in the M-PReS Workflow Resource Repository.
  2. Bruce, the marketing manager prepares the marketing messages in PReS Designer and saves them in the Resource Repository that provides version control.
  3. Bruce approves the fonts and graphics.
  4. Natalia, in IT, defines the data file using the Data Wizard.
  5. Kylie, the document designer, uses PReS and the resources produced in steps 1 to 4 to create the document layout and conditional logic. She then produces a proof for review and also records in M-PReS Workflow all the production requirements (eg operator interactions, paper, trays, version number).
  6. The Credit Card Redesign Committee approves the proof after requesting some modifications.
  7. Bridget, the production operator, is able to see via M-PreS Operator Console all the jobs ready for printing and manage both printed and electronic output, including setting priorities and assigning jobs to printers.
